Lupron is also used as a preventative so I suspect that the vet wants
to stave off a possible future problem with the other adrenal since
your ferret has already demonstrated an inclination.
There are several preventative measures studied and under study. A
number of them can be found in the FHL Archives (address in my
signature lines).
Here is one from Dr. Mark Finkler (2003) which I don't think is in
the archives yet taken from the same new vet text ( 2nd ed. of
_Ferret Husbandry, Medicine and Surgery) I have recently mentioned
trying to get a bit of time here or there to study:
>Indoor pet ferrets exposed to unnatural photo-periods: give 1 mg
Lupron Depot 4-month product s.c. every 6-8 months, beginning around
4-8 months of age
OR
>Outdoor pet ferrets exposed to natural photo-periods: give 1 mg
Lupron Depot 4-month product s.c. annually in February or March
(northern hemisphere), beginning around 4-8 months of age
