Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Ferret Babies removed to soon
We've had ferrets join our family as early as 5 weeks and others in adulthood. The age did
not affect the bonding for ours, but the very young ones were more insecure. The first time
one got into my clothing she tried to nurse from me and that behavior continued for a good
while -- very obviously weaned too early to do something that unusual.
There are also biological developmental studies showing changes that don't normally occur
until after the ages when too many farms are currently separating their kits from moms.
Thankfully, that will be changing for the positive in the U.S. to at least some extent with the
changes APHIS will be imposing on minimum ages for transport and sale.
