Subject: [ferrethealth] Raspy breathing and wheezing; need help!
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello everyone,
I need any help and suggestions I can get right now.
My 7 year old female, Summer, has been...how can I explain it?...her
breathing sounds raspy or wheezy. It's been going on for about 3
days now.

It started suddenly, one morning she was normal and that evening she
was making these noises. At first I thought maybe she had a furball
or something stuck in her windpipe, and gave her a little FerretLax
to see if it helped. I'm not quite sure if it made any difference.

Since she's starting doing this, her nose has been COMPLETELY DRY,
been breathing out of her mouth more, her food intake slightly less
than normal but she still has an appetite, and her activity level
seems a little slower. Her breathing never actually seems different
than normal; i.e. her chest is not heaving, breath is NOT labored or
excessively fast. But she makes these noises occasionally.

Summer has lymphoma, which we believe is currently under control.
She's being treated with prednisone and an herbal tonic called Flor-
Essence, and the swelling of any/all her lymph nodes has long since
gone down and she's not been showing any other symptoms since we
started her on the pred. Seriously, you could never tell she has
cancer. I'm worried about the possibility that it has spread to her
lungs, as I hear can be the case sometimes. I'm hoping that's not
the case but I'll keep it in mind. It does seem to be more than just
a case of the sniffles this time.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? What could be
causing her sudden rasping and wheezing? What can I do to help?

Come Monday, a vet visit and maybe an x-ray will be in order, but I
just needed suggestions and support. Everyone here is always so
helpful.

Thank you,
~Emily and the kids (Summer, Phoebe, Bailey, Lily, and Linus)
