I know typically it is a good idea to space the rabies shot and the

given a few days before the surgery?

**In my opinion, yes, it could be detrimental to the ferret to give the
vaccines only one week apart, as the body will not have recovered from the immune
stimulus of the first vaccine before being hit again. If it is absolutely
necessary to give them that close together, it would actually be preferable to
give them on the same day (which otherwise should never be done) to allow the
body to respond to both equally. I actually prefer to separate by three weeks
rather than two to allow the body more time to regain it's normal balance.

As far as giving them a few days preoperatively, again, the body will be busy
dealing with the vaccination and then be hit with anesthesia and whatever
surgery is being performed. Not recomended, and I personally would refuse to do
a surgery that close to vaccination unless we were talking about a
life-threatening emergency (blockage, etc).**
