Subject: [ferrethealth] Prolapsed Rectum
To: Ferret Health List <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

The vets I consulted said a resounding No!
What they had to do was put a purse string stitch there and gently pull it to close the skin around the prolapsed rectum, leaving some room to go poop.
But while the purse string is there it helps the rectum heal from the inside.
It will usually go back in,but sometimes prolapses again.
Our ferret had the stitch and became swollen down there,we had to take him to the vet and the purse string stitch was snipped.
Alot of poop came out and a approx 3 inch rolled up tube like of hair.
Afterwards the prolapse went back in ,thus the hair was probably the reason he kept pushing and pushing.

Like I said I only speak by experiences that i have had.
