Subject: [ferrethealth] Amoxicillin Price!
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>
Amoxicillin comes in different strengths and formulations. The price varies by this as well as by where the medication is bought from. A vet's price will almost always be more than if you take the prescription to a pharmacy- and even then sometimes you can 'shop around'. I prefer to pick up at the vet's when it is convenient, or already compounded for me ( like when I needed insulin and the vet had the pharmacy he works with compound it, deliver it to the vet's office while I was there). SOme meds only the vet may have or you have to find a pet med type pharmacy, like Baytril, heartworm medications, etc, because these are not human medications.
Now for some reason the 'infant drop" formulation of amoxicillin ( 50mg per 1ml dropper) is more than the 250mg per 5ml liquid formulation. ALthough in each 1ml there is 50mg of amoxicillin- so go figure. maybe due to costs of manufacturing the smaller bottles with the droppers.
Amoxicillin also comes in 125mg per 5ml, 200mg per 5ml and 100mg per 5ml strengths.
For pricing- you can search on line and even call a local pharmacy chain and ask them how much they charge.
