Subject: [ferrethealth] Switching adult ferrets to Innova Evo
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I think a couple of people here have mentioned this tangentially before, but I wanted to address this directly. When he was about four and a half, I switched my ferret Seti over from a variety mix of high quality ferret kibbles to just Innova Evo, because I believe it is a very good food. However, after being on the Innova Evo for about 8 or so months now, Seti's stool is generally pudding consistency and he frequently has an irritated and swollen anus after producing stool (not to be confused with a prolapsed rectum, but I think caused by similar factors, too much soft stool and overstraining). I am wondering if perhaps a ferret who has grown up on kibbles that contain grain becomes reliant on that grain for fiber content and just isn't equipped to handle a food like Innova Evo with less fiber. Any experience or comments to share?
Just to be clear, I repeat that I think Innova Evo is a great food, and if I ever have young ferrets again, I would certainly start them off on it. I'm putting Seti back on a blend of kibbles this week, though, to see if that makes a difference.
