Have them try taking the sample from the lateral saphenous vein. This is my favorite with awake wiggly ferrets. I tempt them at the front end with some a/d or duck soup and wrap them in a warm towel exposing the back leg. My tech scruffs them through the towel and holds off the vein and we 9x out of 10 have no issues. If we do, we try again on the otherside. (it is rare that I have to go to the other side though).

To vets,
I have had several vets to handle my ferrets and their needs.. have a new one about a year now ... He has to sedate my ferret everytime he tries to get blood to check his glucose level...

Taz is about 3.70 lbs and can be hard to hold to get this done.. he is adreanal and insolumic and I like to test him regular to check glucose level..

The other two vets used to stick needle in his fore front of the foot.. and did not have any trouble.. I cannot remember if they held Taz as if scruffing him.. I know it is not good to have to sedate everytime when a procedure needs to be done.. But how do I get pass this with vet and not having to put Taz through so much trama.

If there an easier way for me to suggest how to draw blood from Taz.. my vet is cool he does not mind any suggestions , especially to make things easier on all..

He is due to have glucose checked tuesday ....

Regard,
Lani
