I just learned that Dr. Williams does say that a CDC makes sense before

**I must respectfully disagree with my colleague. A CBC absolutely should be
done, as knowing what the platelet count and red cell count is is vital, but
I feel that a chemistry profile is also needed for any major surgery,
especially in an older animal. Whether or not the type of anesthetic being used is
metabolized by the lungs, as most are, although some of the gas anesthetics are
also metabolized by the liver as well, the fact of the matter is that a ferret
under anesthesia has a lower blood pressure and circulation, just by virtue
of being under anesthesia, and it is vitally important to know the status of
the kidneys and liver beforehand so that you know just what level of support
those organs are going to need. I've caught early kidney disease more than a few
times by doing pre-op bloodwork. It also allows knowledge of whether the
pancreas needs to be closely examined or just a standard check by letting us
catch non-symptomatic insulinoma.**
