Subject: [ferrethealth] Need help...ferret having seizures....
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Miki, my 3.5 year old albino boy, lost all four of his original cagemates in less than a year, is having seizures. One passed from complications due to surgery and the other three were all over the age of eight and were either insulnomic or adrenal. I've had Miki since he was about 10/12 weeks old and he's my baby. He went to the vet about 6 weeks ago and tests didn't show anything except some slight anemia. We put him on pet tinic.

Miki has been having seizures since about 4 o'clock this afternoon. It's 10 pm. I've given him some karo syrup and pred and have been feeding him soup with carnivore care and sub'q fluids. The seizures won't flipping stop!!! I called his vet and she said she wants to see him first thing in the morning. They are not a 24hr clinic and if I tried to take him in tonight there would be no one there to keep on eye on him. The vet doesn't think it's insulinoma but I think it might be but the seizures should have stopped by now shouldn't they? He seems sort of okay between the seizures and will eat soup on his own but I am so afraid he's not going to make it through the night.

My roommate says the seizures remind her of her friend of hers who had epilepsy. Can ferrets have epilepsy? He is having seizures almost every 5 minutes and they last for a few seconds and stop.

Any ideas? Suggestions? What can I do to help him through the night until I can get him to the vet tomorrow morning?

Thank you,
Mary
