Subject: [ferrethealth] Higher blood glucose for albino's?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I have a 6 year old rescue(apx), Charlie, who recently underwent
surgery to remove a benign adenoma from his chin. He was fasted for 3
hours and the vet obtained a BG reading of 168 prior to administering
iso. Charlie is very adrenal as well, he is missing all of his hair
except for on his face and feet. (An exploratory laparotomy is
scheduled for next month).
I suppose I am looking for confirmation that this would NOT be
considered too high for an albino ferret. I read in "The 5 Minute
Veterinary Consult" by Barbara Oglesbee that the top end BG reading
for albino's (as opposed to fitch ferrets) is 207. Could someone
confirm and also enlighten me further as to why albino's would be
higher?
Thanks.
