Subject: [ferrethealth] Foods & Supplements for IBD infos needed
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
It all started May 27 when Daisy has vomited clear liquid stuff while
I was playing with her in a plastic tube. For 2 days, very liquid
yellow diarrhea. The next 3 days, yellowish poops with little red
dots in them (looked to me like frank blood).
Vet Clinic, Treatment # 1 : Amoxi, Flagyl and Carafate for 10 days.
It didn't work. Daisy was eating chicken baby food only on my finger.
She was getting worse, very lethargic, was sleeping 23.5/24 hours a
day. Poops : yellow, orange, brown, always lots of mucus in them.
Vet Dept University, Treatment # 2 : blood tests, xrays and
echography : nothing has been found except Clostridium bacteria in
her stool analysis. So a higher concentration of Amoxi has been
prescribed for 7 days. It didn't work, a biopsy of her intestines has
been suggested.(ok as I was fearing Lymphoma of the GI tract, we went
to see another vet)
Vet Clinic,Treament # 3 : Chloramphenicol, Flagyl and Fenbendazole
for 14 days. After only 2 days, Daisy was top shape !!! So this vet
is almost sure that she had a parasite and/or proliferative colitis.
But he said that Daisy could have IBD too ....
So for 2 weeks now, I'm feeding her duck & potatoe kibbles, it's an
hypoallergenic food for cats with food allergies/intolerances and
gastrointestinal conditions. Daisy just LOVES that food, she eats
very well, her poops are brown and very well formed, actually they
look great !!! :)
HOWEVER ... Now this morning, twice, she has made poops with
yellowish stuff in it and they were kinda grainy too. IMO she had
maybe a parasite but I'm pretty sure now that she may have IBD too.
Daisy gets no treat, except the FerretVite and the Furotone.
I suspect that she has eaten some Totally Ferret that her sister
Rose has maybe hidden under the cage.
So my questions are ...........
Do you think that this food I use is ok for IBD ferrets :
http://www.medi-cal.ca/consumers/Feline/HypoallergenicGastro_EN.asp
If yes, then what kind of supplements should we give
if this duck food is 26 % protein and 8 % fat ?????
IMO the protein isn't that bad but the fat is very low ...
Many Thanks for your help or for any advice !!!
