I'll see if I can find a non-human version but here is the
CDC list of diseases that can be transmitted from
rodents (the mouse, and also the cage you were given).

Some of the words are links, getting you to more info
when clicked on.

Some food disease can carry from the infected animal's feces, urine, or saliva, so that has to
be taken into account, meaning that some food borne diseases can be removed from the
running, but food borne illness is no longer the sole possibility.

If they ever drink from puddles or aquaria, BTW, include giardia in the things tested for.
