I agree with Sukie, get your ferret to a vet immediately.
My 6.5 year old Cassie was squinting and I took her to the vet who
gave her some antibiotic ointment to apply for 7 days. It turned out
7 days was not enough, and after getting a little better, it got
worse again. This time she has a corneal ulcer. We added artificial
tears to the treatment, and this time did it for 12 days. She
recovered fully.
It's possible her high dose of pred slowed the healing process.
