Subject: [ferrethealth] Ivermectin eactions?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Has anyone ever had a problem with a Ivermectin injection in
ferrets? My Koda had a toxic reaction to a Ivermectin injection
given to him to rule out IBD. He got.05cc straight, not diluted. He
is paralyzed and is at the vets in Nevada since my energency vet
didn't seem to know what to do. My friend runs a shelter/rescue in
Nevada and has a wonderful vet who is treating Koda right now. I
live in Calif, and after a week, I had to come home and leave him
there, but I have a friend who checks in on him everyday and holds
him. I will be going back up on the 31st for a week, and hopefully
he will be able to come home with me. He is making small
improvements. He is trying to hold his head up when he is being held
up, and is starting to stretch his back legs and trying to curl up.
But he can't crawl to his food and water, so has to be held up to
eat. He can eat from a bowl if his body is held up a little bit. The
vet says he just has to have supportive care at the vets(IV's,
antibiotics, etc) for a few weeks to get this stuff out of his
system. He is finally able to control his temp, but can't control
his muscles yet. He will be my million dollar ferret when this is
all done. I'm hoping the paralyzis will go away, but I'll take care
of him no matter what condition he's in.
So, has anyone heard of this or knows anything about it? Any help is
appreciated.
Thanks, Melanie*
