Here are some places where you can look up things;
found from the FHL Archives which can be linked to
from the FHL homepage, and also from the extensive
FHL links page. I don't know how good the alternative
med site is; for example I would preferentially trust the
papers on diet from an expert who also has a degree in
nutrition such as those from
http://www.petdiets.com/
compared to
http://www.altvetmed.org/pages/articles.html
but that doesn't mean there aren't things to learn
and observe.

The official university sites and SPCA ones, of course,
tend to be best.

One important caution is that Pau d'Arco has been
noted as having nasty side effects in ferrets:

http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=pro_apcc
has references and a search function so you can, for
instance, look up toxic plants

http://vrxfull.naccvp.com/?u=country&p=msds
in the Compendium of Veterinary Products

http://www.umm.edu/altmed/index.htm
is not a veterinary site but I have found it useful
ditto
http://www.pfaf.org/database/index.php

Remember, though, that some things that are safe for
humans will poison ferrets (and vice versa). That is not
only true for over the counter meds and prescription
meds; it is also true for other medical approaches. In
fact, as some have found with store bought flea products,
some store bought things which are safe for dogs will
kill ferrets.
