Hello Jane,

That is a pretty good sign that she may have an impacted anal gland or
infection there. The bleeding may be from her trying to scoot to relieve
the anal pressure.

You can try a warm soak to see if that helps the gland to drain. Here for
our older guy I take a pail and fill it about 6 inches deep with warm water
( about 101 degrees which is their body temp) and he rest his front paws
on the edge of the bucket and soaks. It helps the plugged gland release
the nasty oils and makes them much more comfy.

She should still be checked but this way of clearing the anal sac is much
better than forcibly expressing it.
