Subject: [ferrethealth] need help with ruptured ear drum
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
My Sammy has had an ear infection since the middle of June. I took
him to his vet and she at that time put him on Tri-otic 15ml twice
daily for two weeks. After two weeks it was no better and she
extended it another two weeks. After two more weeks his ear was still
crusting up every day. It would crust up so bad it would take at
least 15-20 mins to clean it up and it would smell so bad. But it
would always be crusted up again by night.
I took him in to the vet again and she gave me more of the same medicine for two MORE weeks. Then last week he started falling over and not able to stand up at all without falling down. I immediately ran him to the vet and she said his eardrum was now RUPTURED! She put him on.7cc Smz-Tmp 250mg/5ml 2x daily for 7 days. She said he should show improvement after 48 hrs.
After 2 days he was no better so i called and she added .5ml predinisone 1mg/ml for 3 days. Now 3 days have gone by. He
is still very very wobbly and does not have balance and now this
morning his ear is all crusted up again.
I do not know if the vet does not really know what she is doing or what??? Has anyone out there had to deal with this kind of problem? Does anyone know if these are the right meds or doses? This is going on TWO MONTHS now.
His vet SOUNDS like she knows what she is doing but i just do not
know. Any advice or info would greatly be appreciated. Thank you,
Anita & Sammy
