Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Best Distemper shot to give a ferret
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Galaxy D is the only canine distemper vaccine I will use on my ferrets. When Fervac D was still being made we had also used it, BUT, we had too many reactions with it.

Purevax can only be given by a vet and unless your vet already has it
in stock your out of luck. I also know people who have also lost their ferrets to the Purevax vaccine so I won't even try it.

I have been using Galaxy D for about 10 years and have only had "1"
reaction to it, but, this was because I switched from Fervac D to
Galaxy D. Even though it isn't liscenced for use in ferrets, Galaxy D
WAS tested on ferrets for the protection against Canine Distemper which is what ferrets can get. It was also tested by many Ferret
rescues/shelters across the country and was found efective in
protecting the ferrets against the canine distemper virus.

When I took him to the vet for his distemper shot, he gave him Galaxy D. He said that he felt it had the lowest reaction incident.
