Subject: [ferrethealth] update on Willow and Butter
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Well, the vet looked at both. For Willow, he said that he believes
the discharge is just her body protecting against irritants that get
caught in her (enlarged) vulva. Said if it changes color or something
he could prescribe antibiotics (I did point out that it already
crusts green.) He was baffled about why the vulva have stayed
enlarged when she gained fur, energy, and weight over six months ago.
We ran blood tests and she's not anemic. I asked about (??) the med
that's used to bring females out of heat. Even though she's not (will
never be) in heat, I thought that with the tumor mimicking estrus,
this could help. He doesn't know about it because he's not used to
intact ferrets but said that with the tumor still there, it would
help for maybe a week at best. I'm wondering, though, the vulva were
swollen for so long before I got her and she got treatment, maye they
just need an extra boost of something to go down? Or maybe they'll
just stay that way and it's OK, except for whatever's causing the
discharge? He suggested doubling the lupron but didn't should too
sure (might as well try it if you want, I think his words were.) No
cultures were run. Anybody think I should try an antibiotic? Doubling
the lupron?

Now, Butter. Still don't know anything more about that either, except
new descriptive terminology. The thing is papilloma-like, peri-anal,
and doesn't seem to be attached. It's not sensitive either and, as I
mentioned, it's growing slowly. Again, just a visual/manual exam.
(Vet said it looks like a skin tab, which is what I said.) He said
he'd never seen one there and thinks it's rare. He wondered whether
it's rare enough that someone here would like to biopsy it for free--
just in the name of science or curiousity, and suggested I offer a
digital pic.

So, no diagnosis for either one. No treatment plan either, though
it's good to know Willow's not anemic.
