Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Anterior Cruciate Ligament
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi Clover
Yes, ferrets can and do tear the anterior (or cranial)
cruciate ligament. Both of the cases I have had hurt
their knees on a ramp in the cage. Surgery is the best
option to fix your friend's ferret. If surgery is not possible,
then cage rest in a one layer cage may solve the problem.
With some luck the ferret will develop enough scar tissue
to stabilize the knee.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
