Subject: [ferrethealth] Re:Viokase
Hi Lesley
Yes, Viokase (pancreatic enzymes) can be used in ferrets.
However it will help mostly if there is a problem with the pancreas
where it is not making enough enzymes (exocrine function) to
digest the food. In cases of IBD, lymphoma, and ADV the problem
is with absorbing the food thru the diseased intestinal tract.
Viokase may not help in those cases. Easy to absorb food such
as baby food, Hill's a/d, Carnivore Care, and Royal Canin's Recovery
diet may help and Viokase is worth trying.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
