Subject: Re Kidney tied off during neuter Re: [ferrethealth] Digest Number 862
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I'd have to go back and ask to remember when this happened...but a few
years ago I remember our vet at the time exclaiming about the results
of a recent surgery on a MF ferret. She was fully intact (uterus,
ovaries) but was missing one kidney.

We recently received a boy who was 3 at the time who only came with
one blue MF tattoo - and a full set o' testicles! Hey, at least he
was in fact properly tattooed. !!!

Botched spay procedures in farm ferrets (around here MF bring forth
the vast majority of the ferrets one will encounter) have always
seemed not very surprising to the vets who have occasion to perform
many abdominal surgeries in our area. I've heard tell of many wacky
findings, usually on 3+ age critters who are in for adrenal surgery,
thus the abdomen is open for inspection.
