Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret with fluid in lungs and enlarged heart
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

JD (female approx 5 Y/O) begin coughing on July 10th. She was taken
to the vet and given an RX (I don't remember the name now)for 10
days. She showed improvement until last week.
On Saturday I took her back in and the x-ray shows fluid in her
lungs, around her heart and also showed an enlarged heart. Rather
than oval shaped her heart is round. she was given .25ml Lasix
(spelled wrong I'm sure) for Saturday night and .12ml for Sunday and
Monday (this is given twice a day). She also RX'd Flagyl (diarraha)
but she threw up twice after the med so I didn't give it to her last
night or this morning.
Today (Monday) she will have another set of x-rays and an ultrasound
Tuesday if there is no improvement.
JD had x-rays in May (possible obstruction) but there was no
indication of an enlarged heart.
She looks terrible and coughs all the time. I can tell it's
difficult for her to get comfortable and her appetite is starting to
slip a little.
She's also on Pediapred (.30ml) twice a day for low BG but her count
was 80 on Saturday.
Just wondering what to expect and if anyone has suggests on
supportative care for my girl.
This is my million dollar baby - three obstruction surgerys in 3
years and a 4th surgery when we thought she was obstructed and wasn't.
JD is proof that if a ferret can find a way to get into trouble, it
will.
Thanks,
Connie, Piper, JD, Smokey, Freddy and Sammy
