Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret with excessive licking problem. Help!!
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Hi guys!!
I recently rescued a sweet little deaf DEW I named Cricket. About a
month after I adopted her she started with this licking problem. I
mean it's an OCD thing now! Whenever I sit on the couch, sleep at
night or just stand somewhere she wants to clean me. I can put her
down and she is back within seconds. She does clean my other ferrets
as well but it's not as much as it is with me. I know excessive
grooming could be a sign of adrenal. She has a thick white coat and
her hair is fairly long. No swelling of the vulva. By the looks of
her teeth she is proximately 2-3 years of age. But I know this is
still could be a problem. Could she be doing this also because she
really likes the salt on my body or maybe she's just telling me thanks
for rescuing her. I am interested in trying some melatonin on her to
see if this could reduce her little licking problem. If so how is it
administered, by what form and what would be the dose? Thanks for any
help.
