Jennifer,
Given your area, if it is indeed a parasite, the 1st I
would look at is Babesia. Some people in the Lyme
field belive it is more of a problem than Borrelia. It
is transmitted through the same deer ticks as Lyme,
and I don't know this but wonder if your cats may not
have carried it in without being ill (just conjecture
on my part). Unfortunately I have Babesiosis and so
know way too much about this. If it is Babesia I can
tell you about an herb aproved by the WHO for
treatment of malaria and which my MD has me on for the
Babesia. Good luck.
