Subject: [ferrethealth] What to expect with kidney disease?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I just found out today so I did not know which questions to ask the
vet. I have posted about Franklin a lot on here, he continually
lost weight starting last August and he was bony, then he stopped
wanting to play since about January and also he would paw at his mouth
whenever he drank water. I took him to so many ferret vets and had so
many tests and they always came back off but not conclusive. I don't
know if I could just sense something was wrong before it really
progressed to become more apparent or what.

Anyway in June I started him on Pepcid AC/Carafate/Prednisolone and
also give him baby food twice a day, 1:1 with water. He won't eat
kibble anymore although I have tried, but he has gained a lot of
weight back since then and has been playing more too, but I brought
him back to the vet for a re-check just to be sure. We have been
thinking all along that he has IBD by the way. Not sure if he has
both or not. Turns out the bloodwork is showing more conclusively
that he has kidney problems. I just wanted some feedback on what to
expect based on his blood values:

Test June August

Alk Phosphates 4 (14-144 U/L) 17

Total protein 7 (4.3-6.0 g/dL) 7.8

Globulin 3.5 (0.2-2.4 g/dL) 3.9

Bun 50 (10-45 mg/dL) 65

Creatinine 0.6 (normal) 2.9 (0.4-0.9 mg/dL)

Cholesterol 235 (normal) 273 (95-249 mg/dL)
--- I don't know why cholesterol went higher in 2 months, maybe the
baby food?

Glucose was 91

WBC went down from 10.8 to 3.5, now normal

Neutrophil SEG went up from 36 to 62, now abnormal

Lymphocytes went down from 55 to 34, now normal

monocytes went down from 5 to 2%, still abnormal

eosinophils went down from 3% to 1% now normal (is EE/IBD better?)
