Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: Fludrocortisone
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Thanks for your input, Dr. Ruth and everyone. I was, after my inital beating myself up (I still can't believe I did something so stupid and missed something like that), thinking it unlikely, but wanted to check with someone who would know better. Thanks so much. I guess we had coaxed all the lives out of her that we could; somewhere a bunch of cats missing some of their nine lives are cursing Daisy... ;)

Best,

April (vet tech and ferret owner)

"The concern is that she may have gotten 1/2 of the fludro tab twice a day for
two and a half days (so five doses)-in other words, 0.05mg twice a day
instead of 0.025mg twice a day. Would this be enough to potentially cause a crisis
where she became unresponsive and eventually started seizing, not responding to
steroid injections, fluid therapy, or any other standard interventions?

**I would very much doubt it. I actually have a ferret of my own (and not a
large ferret) on 1/2 tab. He's been on that dose for almost a year now with
no problems from it. Florinef, although not completely benign, is reasonably
safe.

It sounds more like a severe insulinomic episode to me, honestly. Which
actually wouold go along with the other mentioned history of previous episodes.

Sorry for your loss.**

Dr. Ruth"
