Dear Luciana:

It certainly sounds like you are making the right decisions. You have
done the culture and gotten the sensitivity which has helped you choose
the right antibiotics. And you have started them today. Now, I think
that the spectrum of enofloxacin and ciprofloxacin is pretty much the
same, so you may not need both of them.

The most important thing to remember is that you have a bone infection,
and a widespread soft tissue infection - this is going to be a very
long haul. In the U.S., he would probably get IV antibiotics for the
first 5-7 days, which are imortant in achieving the levels in the
bone. With oral administration, it may work, but it will take
considerably longer.

ust remember that antibiotics have a certain level - more is not
better, two types are not better than one that is proven to be
effective against the bacteria in the lab. Stay consistent, and be
prpared for months of administration.

With kindest regards,

Bruce Williams, DVM
