Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Is there a mild coagulant in ferret saliva?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Okay, so apparently, even human saliva has
a coagulant in it, a tissue factor:
thromboplastin, TF.

So, I guess it would be no surprise if any animal
descended from one prone to a hazardous lifestyle
would have a decent coagulant in the saliva.

I ran into some studies mentioning differences in
saliva with high levels of estrogen taken; it would
be interesting if untreated adrenal disease could
alter oral health in ferrets from increased hormonal
levels. That may not happen, though. Saliva has a
wide range of components and I don't know which
does what. Any oral health experts here?
