Helga,
I agree with Patty. I can't see anyway that the ointment could have
caused this. I also agree that having a necropsy done would help you
understand what happened and give you closure.
I know from almost 10 years of experiance with ferret rescue that we
alway second guess ourselves when we don't have an answer to the
cause.
I'm deeply sorry for your loss.
