Subject: [ferrethealth] Not seeing results w/melatonin. Any advise?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have a 5-6 yr (don't know exact age) old sable female who was dx
with adrenal 3-4yrs ago. We started her on 30day Lupron injections
right away she did very well on them for 3yrs. Then in October of
2006 we changed vets. The new vet questioned whether or not she was
really adrenal positive do to the fact she showed absolutely no
symptoms of the disease. After reviewing her test results from the
original blood work that the previous dr had used to dx her (level
were very low some in normal range) he advised that we take her off
the lupon (new doc didn't think she was adrenal positive). And if it
turned out she was we'd start her on melatonin implants instead (he
doesn't use or like lupron). In November of 2006 we stopped the
lupron injections. It took awhile about 8months but sure enough the
typical symptoms appeared (hair loss, swollen vulva) we took her in
right away and had melatonin implant put in. So now it's been exactly
30days today since she received the implant and none of the symptoms
seem to be getting any better. The swelling hasn't gotten any worse
but the hair loss has. I contacted the doc today I wasn't able to
speak with him directly but his assistant was. The information she
relayed to me was that she (Sophia) may need another implant already
even though it's only been 30day and it was a 90day implant. The
other thing is I can't seem to find the implant anywhere.

Could her body really have used up the implant already? If so is
there anything we can do to slow this down or at least reduce her
swelling? Our main consern is her being able to potty we can handle
the nakedness. And how long does it usually take to see results with
melatonin?

Cost of her implant was $109.00.
