Okay, a reminder: saying only the volume (cc or ml)
does NOT say how much med is being given unless
you also give the concentration mg/ml so that the
mg level can be calculated. Alternatively, if known
just the mg amount says how much med is given.
There are a range of concentrations. For example,
2mg/ml Prednisolone has twice as much med in
each ml as 1 mg/ml Prednisolone has. There is (or
was) even one generic of Prednisolone that has 5 mg/ml
so has 5 times as much med in the same volume as
the 1 mg/ml version.
Now, the difference between Prednisone and
Prednisolone. The liver converts Prednisone into
Prednisolone before the body can use it, so giving
Prednisolone skips a step. This is also why Prednisolone
is more effective, sometimes startlingly more effective
if a ferret's liver is compromised.
Lymphoma can compromise the liver.
With ferrets when giving Pred also give food to protect
the stomach.
