Subject: [ferrethealth] New around here - Ferret too quiet?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

On Wednesday, I was lucky enough to adopt a ferret into the family.
His name is Rhyli, and he's certainly male, but I know very little
about him.
We had ferrets when I was younger, but I never did much of the
taking care, just the playing. I do remember the cute noises,
however, and how funny I thought they were.

I've had Rhyli 4 days, and he hasn't made a single peep. I gave him
his first bath today, and he almost made a noise, but it really
wasn't one. He just doesn't speak! Is this something I should be
worried about?

Also - Rhyli was adopted from a pet store. They decided to sell him
because he shed his hair entirely, and someone in the store said
this meant adrenal cancer. His coat is fully grown back and healthy
now. He's finally getting used to things here, plays with me (and
with everything else he can find), eats well (though I'm trying to
get him off a moist diet still, since that's what the pet store had
him on), and defecates and urinates normally.
Are there other good explanations for his sudden, temporary
baldness? And/or are there symptoms I should look for to see if
they were right? I've felt around his neck and back legs, and feel
no lumps, but I didn't know if they always could be felt.

Thanks for any help.
