Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Ferret with osteomyelitis. please help!
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

hello:
I have bad news... the antibiotics that the culture said would kill
the bacterias on my ferret=B4s skin ulcers are not working.=20
We started with the medication on august 1st, and the ulcers have not
started to heal yet. In fact they are growing very little. The
bacterias he has is Pseudomonas. Investigating a little I found that
5% Sulfamylon Solution (5% Mafenide Acetate Solution) was used in
severe infected wounds and burns with great success. The solution has
proven to kill pseudomonas very effectively and since nothing is
working on my ferret I was considering this option. Does anyone know
if the 5% Sulfamylon Solution is safe to use on a ferret??=20
Also, I was recomended to use Dakin=B4s Solution in 1/4% concentration.
But I read that is very strong and that apart from killing the
bacteria, it can also affect the healthy tissue and burn the "good" skin.
Any advice would be very much appreciatted.
Thanks a lot!
Luciana
