Lisa, I would encourage you to try some of the strengthening exercises I described. Even
though the muscles to walk may not be strengthened, the surrounding muscles can be
made stronger and help her overall. This is the same thing that is done with prostheses.
The surrounding muscles learn how to work in a new way and they help improve overall
strength. The brain CAN be retrained.
