My first ferret, Sally, used to excavate tunnels under tree roots. She
would dig away at full speed with earth flying back between her legs.
periodically she would reverse out of the hole with a pile of earth
under her body using her front legs like a skid shovel. I often took
home a brown sludgy coloured albino for a good bath (rainy days
were the worst). Sometimes the reversing would be in a series of
jerks rather than the normal ferret backwards quickstep.
