I had a ferret recently who started much the same way - no weight on one foot, weak and wobbly. 36 hours later, no improvement, in fact the foot almost seemed swollen. One additional symptom was eyes that appeared to be swollen or weeping... we weren't sure, and thought it could just have been some staining on the fur around the eyes (posted to the FHL, so you might be able to find the info if you need it).

We took him to the vet who suspected an infected bite or cut on the foot, with the ferret being weak because his body was fighting the infection. Prescribed amoxy drops. 36 hours later, the improvement was remarkable.

There was no significant temperature increase, so I'm not sure of the reason for the diagnosis, but it sure worked out well for this little guy. Kept him on the amoxy for quite a few days (5? 7? not sure) after the end of symptoms, and two months later, all is still well with him.

Just my experience with a similar set of initial symptoms...

I am writing this concerning a friends ferret. He is a male a little
over 5 years of age.
It started with him limping with his front foot. He would not put
pressure on his paw. They took him to the vet did x-rays no visible
sign of any damage of any kind. The thought was it could be soft
tissues or muscular
