Dear Julie:
While this won't explain the knot on the face, it seems that you aleady
have an apparent diagnosis for the neurologic problems - the leg
weakness, wobbliness, and limping - the insulinoma. If the glucose was
60 after the first round of pred, then some action shold be taken, and
upupping the pred is not a very aggressive way to do it. When you have
a very hypoglycemic ferret with neurologic disease - surgery is the
best way to know. We already know pred is not going to work.
Drawing blood and only getting a blood glucose with this number of
problems, I think, is somewhat odd as well.
But ignoring obvious neurologic defects in a hypoglycemic animal in
order to look for something more exotic is extremely questionable.
With kindest regards,
Bruce Williams, dVM
