Subject: [ferrethealth] strange sores
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I'm sitting for a 6-year-old adrenal male, and I just noticed that Godzilla has what looks
like a nickle-sized rug burn on his belly. That is, if I look closely, it seems to be smaller
red dots that have enlarged to cover one area, quite pink and "raw" but not bleeding. It's
very visible because he's bald there. When I went to photograph it, I found something on
his back that looked not as advanced, but like it might be the same thing. Not open or
raw, but like a round blood blister. Red under the skin, and actually like a cluster if you
look closely.
While I was looking at the one on his back, one of my guys came over and smelled, then
started licking the sore on his belly and didn't want to stop--I'm thinking this may be what
caused the rawness in the first place but I don't know why he'd be doing that.
I don't really know where to take this problem. The last time I went to my ferret vet several
hours away (the ony one), he didn't want to do anything at all about Willow's green
discharge. I used to love this vet, but now he scares me a little.
The pictures didn't come out well, but I'll email them if anybody thinks it'll help.
The belly one wasn't there last night, and I don't think the back one was either, but it is
under a little tuft of hair so I'm not sure.
What can this be? What can I do?
