Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Right Side Ataxia in Seven Year Old Female Ferret
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Just an Update:

We took Bilbo to the vets for her follow-up on Monday. She has
improved, but she still has the head tilt and has some trouble
getting where she wants. She gets there eventually, but has some
detours of going around in circles.

Our plan is to continue the Amoxi, in case it has been helping treat
an infection. We are going to reduce her pred down to her regular
insulinoma dose starting today. The vet feels is she does the same
or improves, it is not caused from a brain tumor or brain swelling.
If she starts to do worse, then it is probably a brain tumor.

The vet still feels it is not ear related because she isn't just
imbalanced but she does have muscle weakness. But of course he knows
you never can know what's going on sometimes. He did look at her
ears again to see if there were any changes, but none visible.

Something that is unrelated to the ataxia is the vet noticed her eyes
were extremely dry. I never noticed, but when he pointed it out I
could tell. So, we are giving her some ointment 2-3 times a day to
help her dry eyes.

Thank you for all the helpful posts.
