Ferrets with kidney disease can get ulcers in the mouth, but I've seen
more mouth ulcers due to helicobacter infection, and likely is why your
vet prescribed antibiotics.
If there is a lot of tartar on the molars, I've seen elderly ferrets
get what my vet called kissing ulcers in the cheek. Removal of the
tartar cleared the ulcers quickly.
I wouldn't expect to see a one year old ferret have enough tartar to
cause ulcers in the cheek, or serious kidney disease, so my guess would
be helicobacter. Others may have seen other causes. Could he have
gotten into a hazardous material?
