I don't personally understand why it happened, but make certain your baby gets lots of fluids because they can dehydrate quickly. You may want to pick up a jar of Pedialyte, which replaces electrolytes lost due to vomiting, etc..
I expect you will receive more definitive advice in this forum. I am not a vet, but I do know substantial fluid loss can endanger your ferret in a very short time.
