Subject: [ferrethealth] Re:Mouth Ulcers in Ferret
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I have seen these numerous times in ferrets with
general ulcer problems, especially if they are on
other meds, particularly cardiac meds. It's the first
thing I look for in a ferret that's clawing at his
mouth. They look SO painful! What works wonders for me
(per my vet) is putting carafate directly on the
ulceration several times a day. Some people use the
liquid carafate, I just dissolve the pills in 8cc of
warm water and squirt a cc in the ferret's mouth
several times a day, then they swallow it as part of
the general ulcer protocol, but it's important to get
it right on the ulcer first- no matter how icky it
tastes! Works great.
