Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Adrenal Surgery
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

BTW, the only ferret of ours who died post op was
one who was closed up right after opening because
she was full of lymphoma and then we got to spend
a little time (minutes) with her before her mercy shot.

That is why I was curious. I could not understand why
we didn't lose ferrets after surgery even though there
have been many surgeries over 26 years, but some
people tended to often lose them. Some of them
(a minority of the total sample) were blaming the vets,
but honestly, when the comparisons came in of the
living situations of ferrets who died and those who did
not (information from their own families) even most of
the ones who blamed the vets were allowing climbing
and not watching hydration.

Oh, and there were a few situations people have told
about them or after where the ferret was allowed to get
too cold or too hot soon after surgery and some others
with "placed outside" complications like one with maggots,
and I think 2 cases of heating pads being used which caused
burns. Those things are rare, though.

*****I am probably forgetting things and others can tell you
those!*****

There actually is at least one past discussion on accidental
burns to ferrets from misuse of rice warming bags, or of
heating pads and safer approaches in the FHL Archives:

where looking up

post-op

and some other terms will be easily done and very helpful for you!

Another great place for post-op tips is the FML Archives:
