We have always kept out separate and fairly quiet for the full 10 days
after surgery. While the ferret acts like it is feeling better within a
couple of days, the stitches most be given time to heal before they
start running, climbing and jumping. They are kept in a carrier for the
first 2 days and then moved into a small play pen the remaining 8 days.
If you don't have a play pen, a small cage works as well. As for food,
some won't eat for a day or so and some start eating that same night.
Drinking is important though b/c they can dehydrate so quickly. Also,
use the pain meds your vet provides. They do hurt afterward, just like
we would. Again, some for longer than others. We always use this time
for some extra one on one attention.
Good luck, Jane
