Subject: [ferrethealth] Heartgard vs. Revolution for heartworm prevention
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
We started our three ferrets on Revolution today, the 5-15 lb.
sized dose. Our vet administered today's dose at their check-up. Our
immediate concern was to erradicate ear mites, but we also want to
prevent heartworms during the spring, summer, and fall months, which
is why we used this size (based on recommendations in prior posts by
Jerry Murray, DVM).
My question is about ongoing treatment for heartworm prevention.
What are the benefits of Heartgard vs. Revolution? And, with
Heartgard, what is the recommended dosage for ferrets? In terms of
cost, the Heartgard is about 40% of the cost of the Revolution, but is
it as safe and effective?
Thanks,
Jeff
