Subject: [ferrethealth] Feeding soup to healthy ferrets
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I feed soup, morning and evening, and the rest of the day the ferrets
munch on kibble, lots of kibble. I know they eat plenty of kibble by
the monthly cost!

Many years ago I fed soup to only the old and sick but found that
feeding it every day to everyone keeps the ferrets much healthier with
a good amount of body fat, and it seems to increase their appetite fro
kibble too. In my case I feed soup in addition to kibble to make sure
they get good nutrition, to enhance their immune systems, keep them
healthy, and keep a bit more fat on their tiny bodies. I personally
prefer a bit of fat on the little ones so that if they get sick they
have a little extra to help them through.

The picture on our main page of our website are various ages of ferrets
before I started feeding soup to everyone, the pictures of the ferrets
seen in the virtual tour (also various ages) are ferrets that are fed
soup and kibble. The difference can clearly be seen in body fat.

Another reason for feeding soup is that if anyone gets sick and goes off
kibble they will already have a taste for soup and it is easier to keep
them eating.

It is definitely more work and more costly than feeding only kibble, and
I believe it is worth the extra effort and cost for my group. Each
person needs to decide what is best for their own ferret(s).
