Subject: [ferrethealth] Megaesophagus
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I think my ferret has a megaesophagus. Many months ago, she was weak
and didnt want to eat anymore. She had a bronchpneumonia and had a lot
of difficulties breathing. The pneumonia is gone but left her part of
her lungs that are irreversaly collapsed. She has a lot of diarhea for
many months, I saw many vets and they didnt get it was a
gastro-enteritis until now. She has a lot of regurgitations, she
vomits and she doesnt want to eat anymore. We are waiting to do a
fibroscopy, because she is too weak now, but I am afraid she has a
megaesophagus. She lost 60 gr in few days, I am force feeding her but
I am very afraid to lose her. What else can i do? She is 6 years and 4
months, I feed her energic liquid food for recovering animals I bought
at the pharmacy named Fortol and she is on duck soup she was accepting
for many months but not anymore. The vet said her acidity problems of
her stomach could have burnt her larynx. We still dont know, does it
sound to you like megaesophagus, what is the prognosis and what can i do?
thanks
