Subject: [ferrethealth] Keeping ferret from licking sutures
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I had a mast cell tumor removed from the top of the left haunch of an
active boy. My vet made a verticle incision about 1 1/2 inches long,
going down over the front of the knee. The boy won't leave it alone.
First day ripped out stitches. Re-done, with individual stitches. Upper
part has healed. Kept licking at lower. It opened up some. I've put on
skin closure strips. They get taken off. I had to take him in and get it
re-stitched, better. (Moe $$$$) He's still at it. The stress of walking
at all makes it open some, plus the licking while I sleep and don't
watch him keeps it opening some again. I am keeping him in a one level
My First Home cage, no ramps, just a bed, box, food and water bowls.
Does anyone know of a way to make an E-collar that will stay on and yet
allow him to eat and drink? I tried making one of a harness and plastic
cup taped on. It was off the next morning and the cup ripped. He's a
big, determined guy and missing playing with his lady friend.
